01. Who awards the GRI Certified Sustainability Professional credential?

The GRI Certified Sustainability Professional credential is awarded by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) upon successful completion of the required examinations. Impact Africa Consulting is an Accredited GRI Training Partner authorized to deliver the official training programme, but the certification itself is issued by GRI.

02. What is the difference between completing the training and becoming GRI Certified?

Completing the training earns you a Certificate of Completion for each of the four official GRI Professional Courses.
To become a GRI Certified Sustainability Professional, you must also successfully pass the required GRI examinations. The certification is awarded directly by GRI.

03. Will I be listed as a GRI Certified Sustainability Professional?

Yes. Once you have successfully obtained your certification and met GRI’s certification requirements, you are eligible to be included in GRI’s global directory of Certified Sustainability Professionals. This allows employers, clients, and organizations worldwide to verify your credentials.

Yes. To maintain your status as a GRI Certified Sustainability Professional, you must meet GRI’s annual Continuing Education (CE) requirements. This ensures certified professionals stay current with evolving reporting standards, regulatory developments, and sustainability best practices.

06. What are Continuing Education Units (CEUs)?

Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are professional development credits required by GRI to maintain your certification. They can be earned through approved training, webinars, conferences, workshops, and other learning activities recognized by GRI. Maintaining your CEUs ensures your certification remains active and demonstrates your ongoing commitment to professional excellence.

07. How difficult are the certification examinations?

The examinations are designed to assess your understanding and practical application of the GRI Standards. With active participation during the training and adequate preparation, participants are well positioned for success. To maximize your chances of passing, Impact Africa provides two weeks of guided examination preparation, revision sessions, and five full mock examinations.

08. Can I pay for the certification examination later?

Yes. We offer a flexible payment option. You may secure your place in the programme by paying the training fee first and defer payment of the discounted certification examination fee until after the training or when you are ready to sit the examinations.

08. What support will I receive after the training?

Your learning journey doesn’t end after the final session. Participants receive continued examination support during the preparation period, access to mock examinations, guidance from certified trainers, and advice on maintaining their GRI Certification through Continuing Education Units (CEUs).

The GRI Standards focus on an organization’s impacts on the economy, environment, and society, while frameworks such as the ISSB focus on sustainability-related financial disclosures.
